The Board is to advise the President on conventional arms transfer policy and other arms proliferation matters, reporting through the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs. Executive agency heads must supply information the Board needs, members serve unpaid but receive travel expenses, and the Department of Defense must provide administrative support and designate a research center to assist the Board. Meetings involving national security information may be closed to the public, with the Secretary of Defense or a Senate-confirmed designee authorized to make that call. Board members and staff must agree not to disclose classified information. The Board terminates 30 days after the President submits its final report to Congress.
